Martha Noah
born 1943
Working primarily with her artist husband William Noah, Martha has
participated in the printing program since it first started in Baker Lake
in 1970. She began combining her earlier work in the stencil technique, with
the stonecut technique in 1973. In addition to many drawings by her husband,
she has translated into prints drawings by Anguhadluq, Avaalaaqiaq,
Iksiktaaryuk, Qarliksaq, Mamnguqsualuk and others. She frequently signs her
work with her maiden name Ilumigayak, in syllabics.
Martha's sister, Mary Anirniq Krilak, is a printmaker in the community.
Their mother was the late Ruth Uamayassi, a Baker Lake wallhanging artist.
Jessie Oonark, was Martha's mother-in-law.
